Frank Clune: All Aboard For Singapore
Angus & Robertson, Sydney, 1941. First Edition. Signed by Author. Binding: Hardcover. Book Condition: Good Condition. Dust Jacket Condition: No Dust Jacket. 241 pages. Book is in Good Plus condition, by which we mean it has marks of age and is worn from handling, but is still intact and good for reading, and while it possesses some undesirable defects is still a presentable copy. Light soil marks to covers. Rubbed edges. Lightly bumped corners. Very light foxing first few pages. According to this book’s opening passage, it “describes a ten-thousand mile trip by air from Sydney to Malaya and back” taken by the author in the early 1940s. What was he flying, you ask? A Qantas “Flying Boat”: an air and water behemoth that ferried mail between countries at the time. Peppered with the author’s photographs and dedicated to “the Pioneers of Progress” (the author thought a very great deal of commercial airline pilots, apparently), this document of a remarkable journey is a treasure from a bygone era.
