    First edition of distinguished historian William Keith Hancock’s (1898-1988) famous 1930 survey of Australia. In 1924, at age 25, Hancock was appointed Professor of Modern History at the University of Adelaide, becoming the youngest professor in the British Commonwealth. Today, he is regarded as one of, if not the, greatest Australian historian. ‘Australia’ is “notable for its ironic tone”, and “attacked the three pillars of Australian settlement–protection, state socialism and the White Australia policy.”
