    14.5cm x 8.5cm. [lxx], 492 pages, engraved title page, woodcut initials, type decorations. Brown full leather, 4 raised bands, gilt lettering and decorations, boards have gilt bookstamp with initials I and L, all edges decorated. Text is in French.

    This work by Jean-Francois Senault (1599-1672), a French Augustinian philosopher and writer was first published in 1641. It discusses the passions or emotions, their uses and dangers, and their religious context.

    5cm crack in upper crown joint, 1cm piece missing from crown of spine and 2cm piece from tail, leather beginning to lift from tail of lower board, board edges rubbed. Stain to lower edge of text block, 2 cm tear on page 197, a few other pages have small pieces missing from an edge, most caused by original paper making faults and only one with small loss of text. Previous early owner’s name in brown ink. Good Condition.
