    Established throughout the United Kingdom for estimating the duties on spirituous liquors. By Act of Parliament, 58 Geo. III., cap. 28. To which is added Tables of Specific Gravity adapted to the use of the Hydrometer. Reference book of tables for use with the Sikes Hydrometer, a measuring device used to determine the strength of alcoholic spirits. The device was the legal standard for calculating tax and customs on spirits from 1816 to 1907. This is an undated mid 19th century book of tables.
