“The Framing of Timber for structural purposes may be regarded both as a mechanical and as a liberal art.” So begins this Borough Engineer of Liverpool’s 1860 “comprehensive treatise on the selection, preparation and strength of materials, and the mechanical principles of framing, with their application in carpentry, joinery and hand-railing.” Full of precise mathematical drawings, notes and instructions, including visual deconstructions of the role of timber in the creation of several of the world’s most revered bridges and buildings, this is a treat for any woodworker.

Has been rebound into undecorated green cloth. Previous owners inscription and stamp on inside cover. Illustrated title page is loose from binding. One plate page almost at end of book is also loose and torn into two pieces. Occasional closed tear and mark throughout. Poor Condition.
