Sex and Horror Volume 4
AU$55.00 Read MoreAdd to cartNicola D’Agostino; Y. El-Droubie
London: Korero Press, 2016.“This is the fourth title in our bestselling Sex and Horror series, which celebrates the 1960s and 1970s publishing phenomenon known as fumetti sexy–Italian adult comics with a unique take on such genres as horror, crime, fantasy, history and fairy tales. The comics were hugely successful, due in part to their uninhibited mix of twisted humour, gory violence, and up-front eroticism; however, what makes them so sought-after today is their technicolour cover illustrations, rendered by classically trained painters. Here is a further collection of those superb covers–a visual feast of outrageous pulp art.” (publisher’s blurb)

Practical Observations on Insanity
AU$1,500.00 Read MoreAdd to cartJoseph Mason Cox
London: R. Baldwin and Thomas Underwood, 1813.“In which some Suggestions are offered towards an improved Mode of treating Diseases of the Mind, and Some Rules proposed which it is hoped may lead to a more Humane and successful Method of Cure: to which are subjoined, Remarks on Medical Jurisprudence, as it relates to Diseased Intellect.” The third and final revised edition of the major work by English physician Joseph Mason Cox (1763-1818). Cox was one of the first medical graduates to specialise in the treatment of the insane. Throughout his career he advocated for more humane treatment of lunatics and maniacs. In this work he introduces his swinging technique, based on a design by Erasmus Darwin, of spinning a patient’s body round a vertical axis in a specially designed chair which would produce nausea, vomiting, and convulsions, but would ultimately lead to a restful slumber, which he believed to be a positive outcome for the maniacal. This copy warmly inscribed by Cox.

The Future is Fungi
AU$50.00 Read MoreAdd to cartMichael Lim; Yun Shu
London: Thames & Hudson, 2022.How Fungi Can Feed Us, Heal Us, Free Us and Save Our World. “The kingdom of fungi has survived all five major extinction events. They are the architects of the natural world, integral to all life. They sustain critical ecosystems, recycling nutrients and connecting plants across vast areas, and help to produce many staples of modern life, such as wine, chocolate, bread, detergent and penicillin. Today, in the face of urgent ecological, societal and spiritual crises, fungi are being engineered to grow meat alternatives, create new sources of medicine, produce sustainable biomaterials, remediate the environment and even expand our collective consciousness. The Future is Fungi is a complete introduction to this hidden kingdom. Exploring their past, present and potential future impact in four key areas – food, medicine, psychedelics and mental health, and environmental remediation – this book not only reveals how fungi have formed the foundations of modern life but how they might help shape our future. Rich with informative texts, awe-inspiring 3D digital art and tips on how to immerse yourself in the world of fungi, this is a manifesto for the future, an invitation into a deeper awareness of our relationship with the natural world, each other, and ourselves.” (publisher’s blurb)
