The rare first edition written from Wallace’s notes of his first fieldwork expedition to the Amazon, 1848-1852, his specimens and most of his work having been lost in a cargo fire on the return voyage.

Rebound in green cloth with new endpapers. Minor insect damage to fore-edge. Foxing and minor staining to frontispiece. Moderate tanning to pages, minor foxing. Small closed tear to folding vocabulary table at hinge. Very Good Condition.
