One of the earliest English works to give a comprehensive account of Afghanistan. The book begins with a framework of climate, productions, people, language, literature and antiquities, and early history, up until Afghan politics came into contact with Western Europe. The second half of the work concerns itself with internal and foreign policy of Afghanistan, in particular its relations with Britain, Russia and India. The first Afghan war and its outcomes are covered, with increasing political detail leading up to the second Afghan war in 1878, launched just days before the introduction was written.
Mottling to cloth. Minor bubbling to cloth on rear board. Minor to moderate soiling and foxing. Minor insect damge to fore-edge. The number 64 written in ink on bottom edge and front pastedown. Good Condition.
