The catalogue for the auction of paintings, drawings, watercolours and miniatures from the San Donato Collection which was accumulated by Count Nikola Demidov and his son Anatoly, 1st Prince of San Donato. It was kept at their Villa San Donato near Florence, and was dispersed at sales in Paris in 1863, 1870 and 1880. This is the catalogue for the first four of six sales over 8 days in 1870. The 42 plates are original engravings after the works. This copy is annotated with the prices realised at the sales, possibly by the owner Robert Browning, whose signature is to the title page dated 1871. Most of the plates through the first half of the volume have manuscript English translations of the catalogue descriptions tipped in.

Tiny split to crown of spine. Foxing to endpapers and adjacent pages. Tanning to edges and some plates. Previous owners’ names and label. Very Good Condition.
