A Narrative of Researches and Excavations During Ten Years’ Residence as American Consul in that Island. Luigi Palma di Cesnola (1832-1904) was an Italian-American diplomat and amateur archaeologist. This labour of love was published at the end of his tenure as United States consul at Larnaca in Cyprus from 1865-1877, where he carried out extensive excavations uncovering large quantities of antiquities. After ten years of what the Cypriots well consider looting, he became the first Director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, from 1879-1904.
