Sacred Geography taken from the Old and New Testament with 4 large folding maps reissued by Francois Halma after Sanson’s maps from 1683, and 1 engraved dedication page with royal portrait and coat of arms by Willem Goeree, engraved by van Vianen. A handsome Dutch edition, with preface and notes by Jean Le Clerc (1657-1736), of the celebrated geography of the Holy Land by Nicolas Sanson (1600-1667), first published in 1653. The four superb folding maps relate to each part of the work: Totius Orbis partes, Terra promissa, Domini Nostri Jesu Christi itinera per Judacam, Samariam, ac Galilaeam and Apostolorum Petri et Pauli, the latter also having a detailed inset plan of Jerusalem. The main body of the work comprises a geographical index, arranged alphabetically and providing brief descriptions of places along with biblical references, as well as the latitude and longitude of each location. A section is devoted to all the places visited by Christ, and another gives an account of the travels of the Apostles Peter and Paul.
