Johnno is rightly considered an Australian classic. It is one of David Malouf’s finest novels, and a savagely honest appraisal of the malaise of white suburban masculinity in 1970s Australia. Dealing with cultural cringe, tall poppy syndrome, and the stagnating influences of capitalism and postmodernism, it paints a picture of two very different but equally lost young men, whose intelligence and charisma is no shield against the societies in which they live and travel. This signed first edition is somewhat unsightly with a previous owner’s inscription scribbled out on the front endpaper
