An illustrated bibliophile edition of Baudelaire’s Artificial Paradises, on the drug experiences of hashish and opium and their relationship to creative expression, comprising his essay on hashish and, in the second part, his adaptation of Thomas De Quincey’s Confessions of an English Opium-Eater. Illustrated throughout by Henry Chapront with colour plates and text illustrations. One of 150 numbered copies printed for members, this being one of 100 subscriber copies on laid linen-and-hemp paper, additionally issued with a suite of 21 colour proofs on Chine paper, including the facsimile portrait of Baudelaire.
