This ledger, printed and assembled in Brisbane by Sapsford & Co., Manufacturing Stationers of Adelaide Street, tracks the price, markets, shipping, and crops of beet and cane sugar from several places, including London, Mauritius and Cuba, with remarks on distribution to Australian ports including Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Freemantle, from July 1891 to August 1914. From August 1909 it has a column for ‘Tate’s Standard Granulated’ (Tates was one of the largest sugar refiners in England). It ends in August 1914 with a note ‘European War: No quotations for beet or granulated.’ Two pages in the back of the volume summarise the highest and lowest quotations from 1891 to 1911.
