The first 6 numbers in the beefcake photography series, Men and Art, produced and published by Alonzo “Lon” Hanagan (1911-1999) AKA Lon of New York. Mentored by Robert Gebhort in the early 1930s, Lon developed a classical style of masculine poses often employing Greco-Roman motifs. He became one of the greatest physique photographers of the golden era inspiring notable contemporaries such as Bob Mizer of AMG and Bruce of Los Angeles, among others. Lon was notable for his choice of models, often featuring Mediterranean, Latino, and African American models. Scarce. 3 holdings in OCLC, all incomplete.
Volume 4 in Good Condition, some small open tears to the wrappers front panel. Rest with minor to moderate shelf wear and the occasional spot of very minor foxing. Volume 2 with minor foxing to wrappers. Very Good Condition.
