120 Photographs of Various Nationalities Selected by Dr. Peter Landow. Originally published in Germany as Natur und Kultur: Das Weib in 1925, as well as a French edition, and then in English for the first time in 1926. The English edition was reprinted numerous times by Chapman and Hall however the First Edition was printed in Germany and is of superior print quality. Containing 120 nude sepia photographs, by various photographers, many being fine examples of the pictorialist style, presented as an anthropological study of women from different cultures, differing from the usual ‘for the artist’ statement common of nude photography books of the era. Containing two Australian examples: plate 21 attributed as Australian Woman (likely of European heritage) by E. O. Hoppe, London, and plate 119 attributed as Australian Woman (New South Wales) by Kerry, Sydney. Lent by the Vienna Ethnographis Museum. This image is Charles Henry Kerry’s 1890s portrait of the Aboriginal princess, Nerelle of the Moruya tribe.
