Th. Burnetii [Thomas Burnet]Amsterdam: Joannem Wolters, 1699.
Second Amsterdam Latin Edition.

An influential attempt to explain the Earth’s origins and history in a way that reconciled the biblical account of Creation and the Flood with rational, scientific argument. Part of the literature on Hollow Earth. The second Amsterdam Latin edition of the complete four-book text (following Wolters’ first Amsterdam edition of 1694), combining what Burnet had published separately in London in 1681 (Books I-II) and 1689 (Books III-IV). It also includes Burnet’s Archaeologiae Philosophicae, first published separately in 1692. With two folding hemisphere maps: the eastern hemisphere includes an early partial representation of Australia, while the western shows California as an island.
Hinges repaired. Early inscription to verso of frontispiece, partially trimmed at fore-edge. Very minor soiling. Very Good Condition.
