The first chess book written by a woman first published in 1860, 24 years before the first women’s tournament in England. It also includes the essay Morals of Chess by Benjamin Franklin. Produced by the game making firm John Jacques and including advertisements for their game sets The ABC of Chess stayed in print into the early 20th century and ran to over 10 editions.

Resewn and lacking the wrappers, this copy likely the Eighth Edition. Very minor corner crease to crown fore-edge corner. Minor insect damage and tanning to exterior panels, interior largely clean and bright. Good Condition.
