One of the heights of romantic flagellation literature and one of Carrington’s scarcest publications. This copy printed on India paper for Carrington by Noel Texier. MENDES 178 (though he only examined a copy printed on Van Gelder Dutch paper, however he found references to copies on three papers in an inventory list drawn up in 1930 by Carrington’s successors, Frank Groves and Henri Michaux. Limited to 250 numbered copies, of which this is number 138 (though possibly a married set or a publisher’s fault with volumes 2 & 3 reading 120 with 38 inked over to read 138).

Some rubbing to board leather with chipping to spine heads and tails. 3.5cm closed tear to tail edge of page 127/8 in volume one. 9.5cm closed tear horizontally across page 123/4 in volume two. Very Good Condition.
