First edition of the English translation and commentary of the Quran by Maulana Muhammad Ali, leading figure of the Lahore Ahmadiyya Movement. Presented alongside the original Arabic, Maulvi Muhammad Ali’s work is considered the first notable translation and commentary of the Quran into English by a Muslim. It was the first translation to make the Quran widely accessible to the West and set the standard for all future translations of the Quran by Muslims. This copy with the ownership signature of English philosopher and historian Arnold J. Toynbee, with pencil notations to the versos of the endpapers with cross-references to Noldeke-Schwally translation, and the occasional pencil marginalia.

Moderate handling wear, minor cracking at lower hinge and index, still firm.. Very Good Condition.
