    First edition, first issue of 1500 copies. Darwin’s longest botanical book, which extended his work on climbing plants. This volume demonstrates that climbing plants operate in the same mechanism as flowering plants. Written with the assistance of Darwin’s son, Francis, who later refined some of the experimental techniques and modified their conclusions. 196 wood-engraved illustrations in text. This copy with the advertisements dated May 1878.
