Published six years after the Australian edition of The Little Red Schoolbook (1972), written by Soren Hansen and Jesper Jensen; a controversial book which highlighted hypocrisies associated with schools and students, and was banned by the Queensland Literature Board of Review. Young, Gay and Proud was created as a supportive resource on sexuality for students by an autonomous collective of the Melbourne Gay Teachers and Students Group. Later adapted and published in multiple editions for an American audience.
