Kyoto: Shinshindo, 1979.A beautifully presented collection of masks used in the classical Japanese dance-drama Noh. Each plate, photographed by Naomi Maki, is mounted in an individual folder with tissue guard, housed in a portfolio case, and includes an index sheet. An accompanying explanatory volume written by Yasuo Nakamura goes into detail on the subject, as well as containing black and white photographs of the reverse sides of the masks. The portfolio and accompanying volume are housed inside of another cloth clamshell with two bone clasps, which in turn is housed in another box. Yasuo Nakamura (1919-1996) was a Japanese high school teacher, junior college professor, and Noh scholar, producing numerous works on the subject from the 1960s until his death. His scholarship on this collection of masks earned him the Geijutsu Sensho Prize from The Agency for Cultural Affairs.

First published and edited by John Murray in 1909, this lot come under the fourth ownership and the fourth branding (back to the original title Boxing, after briefly going by Boxing and Racing, then Boxing, Racing and Football during the late 1920s/early 1930s), just prior to and during the early days of World War II, and under the editorial direction of Sidney Ackland, then Stanley Nelson, and briefly with John Murray returning to the helm. Discusses bouts in England and abroad, with regular published sections on the sport in America, Australia, and elsewhere, as well as fights held within the armed services. An invitation to the opening celebrations of the extensions to the Murat Temple of the Ancient Arabic Order of Nobles of the Mystic Shrine in the Oasis of Indianapolis, Desert of Indiana. A great ballroom, it was decorated with an Egyptian theme to match the Arabic concept of the Shrine, with hieroglyphics and drawings found in ancient palaces and tombs near Thebes. Shriners membership form laid in, and housed in an original unmarked posting envelope. Unrecorded in OCLC at October, 2022.

Published every Wednesday and available for one penny, it claimed to be “The only paper in the world solely devoted to boxing” and to have “The Largest Circulation of any Sporting Journal in the World.” with general offices in London and Paris, and distribution in Australia and New Zealand by Gordon & Gotch, India by A. H. Wheller & Co., South Africa by Central News Agency, Canada by the Imperial News Co., and in the United States by The International News Co..
