Carlo de Poortere (1917 – 2002), son of Belgian carpet manufacturer Louis de Poortere and later co-manager of the family business, was a bibliophile and collector. His library included fine 17th and 18th century bindings, and other works from the sixteenth to the twentieth centuries. He also collected manuscripts and memorabilia, and it is those that this book documents, by Emile Verhaeren (Belgian Symbolist author, 1855 – 1916, Maurice Maeterlinck (Belgian poet and playwright, 1862 – 1949), and Georges Rodenbach (Belgian Symbolist writer and poet, 1855 – 1898). Produced in a limited edition of 350 copies, numbers 1 – 50 printed on Deluxe watermarked Ingres Van Gelder paper; this being one of the deluxe edition, being number 36.
