Born Jose Ramon Gil Samaniego, Ramon Novarro (1899 – 1968) was a Mexican-American actor and sex symbol who starred in movies, both in silent films and talkies. His films included The Student Prince in Old Heidelberg with Norma Shearer, Across to Singapore with Joan Crawford, and Mata Hari with Greta Garbo. He was Roman Catholic and homosexual. He was murdered by two brothers on October 30, 1968 who phoned him offering sexual services. The photograph has a very faint remnant of an ink inscription (or perhaps ink stamp): Sincerely yours Ramon Novarro.
