First published in 1750, being “the first book in English to describe how diamonds and pearls can be evaluated on the basis of the factors of size (or weight) and style of cut”. This edition, while stated as the Fourth Edition, is produced by the London bookseller Edward Lumley sometime in the 19th century, and differs from the fourth edition of 1871 “While resembling the 4th edition, it has been prepared by a different publisher and the contents are drastically re-arranged. The explanation of technical terms omitted in the previous edition (despite its claim to completeness!) is here restored.” SINKANKAS 3203. Though given the career of Lumley it is likely this edition was published prior to the 1871 fourth edition.

In 1884 they were massacred at Battle Mountain by settlers and police.” (from Kalkadoon PBC website) This book shows that the Kalkadoon did not submissively accept the takeover of their land.

Brisbane: Ernest Briggs, No date.Autograph transcription of German symbolist poet Stefan George’s 1897 work Das Jahr der Seele [The Year of the Soul] by Australian poet, broadcaster, and critic Ernest Briggs (1905-1967). The complete work has been copied in the original German, though the poem starting ‘Keins wie dein feines ohr’ has only been titled with a blank space left for the poem, and the final 9 poems from ‘Ob schwerer nebel in den waldern hangt’ to end have not been included, presumably only because Briggs ran out of room in the book. Penned during Briggs time at 4BK Brisbane sometime in the late 1930s or early 1940s.

The album contains the bookplate of lawyer, politician, and Federalist, Sir Josiah Henry Symon (1846-1934). Symon represented the Commonwealth Government at the review and made the presentation of the shield and table piece. Photographs by the S. A. Govt. Photolithographic Dept, A. Vaughan, Govt.
