First Edition.

15 pieces (6 catalogues, 4 envelopes, 1 newspaper, 1 exhibition catalogue, 1 monograph, and 2 carry bags).

A complete set of the six Biba mail order catalogues (35.5cm x 18cm), four retaining their original Biba logo envelopes. Each catalogue was designed by John McConnell. Offered here together with: the Biba company newspaper ‘Welcome to the New Biba’ [London, 1973], produced to mark the opening of the Big Biba department store in Kensington; a Biba Food Hall paper bag; a Biba plastic carry bag; the exhibition catalogue ‘Biba: The Label, The Lifestyle, The Look’ (Leicester Museum and Art Gallery, 1993); and ‘In Biba: A Graphic Romance’ by Delisia Howard, illustrated by Chris Price, with foreword and additional illustrations by Barbara Hulanicki (London: Hazard Books, 2004). Biba was founded by Barbara Hulanicki and Stephen Fitz-Simon in 1964 as a mail-order fashion label, becoming one of the defining names of London’s Swinging Sixties and early 1970s style. Rejecting conventional catalogue photography, the mail-order catalogues were conceived as fashion editorials, featuring original work by Donald Silverstein, Hans Feurer, Helmut Newton, Sarah Moon, and Harri Peccinotti. Combining innovative graphic design with editorial fashion photography, they rank among the landmarks of late-1960s British fashion publishing.

Minor shelf and handling wear to catalogues, each complete including the order forms, only the Silverstein catalogue with one of the perforated slips removed. The envelopes with moderate handling wear and minor soiling. Newspaper with some staining to the bottom right corner and a 4cm closed tear to the fore-edge of the upper panel along the horizontal fold. Moderate shelf wear to the outer folder of the 1993 catalogue, the catalogue itself with only a very minor crease to the tail fore-edge corner of the wrappers upper panel. Minor shelf wear to In Biba book. Very Good Condition.
