21cm x 15cm. 4 issues. Illustrated saddle-stapled wrappers.

Collection of newsletter magazines issued by the Australian crossdressing organisation The Seahorse Society in its founding form as The Seahorse Club of Australia. Founded in 1971, “the club identified as being for heterosexual transvestites, intentionally distinguishing themselves from homosexuals, fetishists and transsexuals. This was part of an effort to portray transvestism as ‘normal’ and club membership as respectable.” (Noah Riseman: Transgender Australia: A History Since 1910) From the late 1990s, Seahorse began evolving to adopt broader transgender language and advocacy, and is now regarded as Australia’s earliest known trans organisation. The collection comprises: Feminique Numbers 11 (1976), 16 (1977), 22 (1980), and 25 (1984). The first three issues edited by Trina Beaumont (formerly Trina Taylor), the last by Caroline Joyce taking the reins.

Some soiling and insect damage to wrappers of No. 11, minor to others. No. 25 with vertical creasing. Good Condition.
