Rock’s principal work on the Na-khi, drawing on indigenous manuscript sources and Chinese histories alongside his own fieldwork in north-west Yunnan. Provenance: Alexander Brown Griswold (1907-1991), foremost Western scholar-collector of Thai art and adjunct professor in Cornell’s Southeast Asia Program, with his bookplate; thence Property of the Breezewood Foundation (Griswold’s research foundation, est. 1957), with plate; Presented to Cornell University, with presentation plate. No formal library markings; released from the collection, confirmed with Cornell that the volumes are not recorded as missing.
Minor rubbing and soiling to cloth. A couple of preliminary leaves of volume 1 tipped back in with some creasing to tail margin of the preface leaves. Very Good Condition.
