Bedside Books BB1337, the English edition of the Newsstand Library pulp. Cover illustration by Robert Bonfils. Lesbian pulp novel from the paperback original boom of the 1950s to the 1970s. Typically formulaic, issued in recognisable series with suggestive covers and titillating titles, most were written by men under female pseudonyms and marketed to men. A smaller number of authors, some of them lesbian or bisexual women (often also writing under pseudonyms), brought narrative sincerity and psychological depth to the same commercial format, and the books found a substantial lesbian readership at a time when few other depictions of lesbian life were in print.
