Desmond began performing as a living statue in 1906 and went on to broadly promote performing nude on stage, progressing from posed representations of classical figures to dance. Her early career attracted considerable controversy and debate, though she always defended her performances as high art. This dedication to the form remained evident throughout her later career as a dance teacher in Berlin, and the present work is an early example of her methods. One of 150 numbered copies, signed by Desmond at the end of the preface, with nude photographic portrait frontispiece, and 8 plates of dance notation in a rear pocket.

The present copy is the exceptionally rare first printing, in a single volume, distinguished by its title-page date in Roman numerals, MDCCXIV. A second printing of 1714 appeared with the date in Arabic numerals, while subsequent editions expanded the work into two and eventually three volumes under new titles.

Hansen was a founding figure of the Happenings movement and a longstanding presence in Warhol’s circle: he was a frequent visitor to the Factory, and his daughter Bibbe Hansen was one of Warhol’s superstars, appearing in two of his 1965 films. Hansen arrived at the Factory on the day of the shooting and narrowly missed Solanas as she fled the building after shooting Warhol with a pistol. One of 80 numbered copies signed by Hansen and Cieslik with a photograph of the performance mounted to the lid and accompanied by three A3 and one A4 xeroxed sheets reproducing articles about the performance.

Vizovice: The Other World Kingdom, 1996.A marriage manual for dominant women, authored by the absolute monarch of The Other World Kingdom, a BDSM and femdom resort and micronation in Czechia. OWK was founded in 1996 and opened to visitors in 1997 on the grounds of a 16th-century chateau and claimed its own currency, passports, police force, courts, state flag, and state hymn, though it was not recognised by any other country. Patricia de Gifford, ruled as Queen Patricia I and citizenship for women required reaching the age of consent and ownership of at least one male slave; men who wished to become citizens were required to obey the Queen and pay taxes. The resort operated commercially as a large-scale femdom facility for a bit over a decade. Published in the year of the kingdom’s founding, this two volume devotes Volume I to the training and breaking-in of a husband, and Volume II to his punishment.

Whether Une Femme Curieuse here is Maurice Magre as suggested for ‘L’Art de Seduire’ is unknown. This new edition, reset with a denser line count, bringing the work from 308 pages to 242. Cover illustration by Danish illustrator Gerda Wegener, known for her distinctive lesbian erotica works. Her husband was one of the first people to undergo sex reassignment surgery in 1930. In the 1910s, her husband was regularly crossdressing and was Gerda’s primary model.

Sydney: Butch Enterprises, [1972].The second (of only two published) of one of Australia’s first gay porn magazines. It has been well documented that Munro’s publishing ventures were more for his own joy of sex than any great publishing profit aspirations, nonetheless, this final double-issue presents as a fine example of 1970s Australian erotica with its mix of male homoeroticism, cartoons, advertisements, and articles, as well as venue, book, and film reviews. Uncommon in the medium, Munro published his name prominently on the front cover, and the interior contains portraits of himself and staff, at a time when homosexuality was still criminalised throughout Australia. He later said he wanted Butch to have a “strong come out attitude [and show] that somebody wasn’t afraid to come out of the closet” (Munro: Let It All Hang Out, 2008). After Butch, Munro published a shortlived tabloid in 1973 titled Little Butch, before selling up to heterosexual smut publisher of Ribald, Bill Horne, who continued the publication as Gay. Printed by Sydney printers Rotaspeed Press, known for printing numerous Australian erotica works by Howard Products, Potz Press, and Lay Press, as well as student newspapers such as University of Queensland Union’s Semper Floreat.

Vetero-Pragae [Prague]: Matthiam Hoger, 1731.The diocesan ritual of the Archdiocese of Prague, issued in the final year of the archiepiscopate of Ferdinand [Franz Ferdinand], Count von Khunburg (Archbishop of Prague, 1713-1731), and printed by Matthias Hoger in his capacity as archiepiscopal printer. Covering all of the rituals of the Catholic Church in Prague: baptism, confirmation, penance, matrimony, extreme unction, burial, exorcism, and blessings of houses, bells, and crops, together with the Prague ceremonial and processional calendar, and musical notation for the chanted rites. This copy bound without pp. 89-134 of the final parts of De Sacramento Poenitentiae, comprising the Bulla Coenae Domini and the related appendices on absolution. The absence of the Bulla is consistent across all recorded copies of the edition, however the appearance of the appendices varies, and one plate is normally found facing p. 135. The Bulla’s absence is best explained by the requirement across Catholic Europe that a papal bull needed civil sanction before it carried legal force and the Bulla Coenae Domini was among the most persistently withheld. This copy with a leather presentation plate to the front board, dated 1829, dedicating the volume “to the Reverend parish priest Carl Sternad, in remembrance, from Joseph Suchanek.”

Daniek, a journalist and functionary of the Christlichsoziale Partei (CSP), wrote it as a central document of Christian Social antisemitism, and the party deployed it specifically against the Austrian Social Democrats in the February 1919 “Fluchtlings-Nationalratswahlkampf”, the first of the Republic’s so-called “refugee election campaigns”. It was used again in the May 1919 Vienna municipal election and the October 1920 National Council election. The pamphlet’s central argument was an antisemitic conspiracy theory portraying Austrian Jews who had fled Galicia and Bukovina during WWI as responsible for Austria’s wartime social and economic crisis, and it advocated a visible and aggressive attack on the Jewish population. A primary source for organised antisemitic politics in the immediate post-war Austrian Republic.
